Rheia Medical is developing a solution that prevents injuries during pelvic surgery.

Over 5 million pelvic surgeries are performed annually worldwide. And despite surgical advancements, precise identification and preservation of the ureters, vital for urine transport, remain challenging. Unintended ureteral damage during surgery poses risks of kidney failure, sepsis, and mortality. Despite surgeons’ efforts, ureteral injuries occur in up to 1.5% of cases, leading to an increased healthcare burden, including re-surgeries, prolonged hospital stays, and elevated costs.

In collaboration with Create Medtech, Rheia Medical has developed an innovative medical device that can aid surgeons in safely and effectively identifying ureters during procedures.
