Re5

Certified brain stimulation at home

Re5 is a Danish medtech company that makes a brain stimulation device for physician-prescribed at-home use.

Its Re5® Technology delivers T-PEMF, a form of sub-threshold transcranial magnetic stimulation. The patient puts on a headset containing seven coils and completes a 30-minute daily session at home.

The technology was developed at Danish research institutions and university hospitals and has since been supported by peer-reviewed clinical research in depression and Parkinson’s disease. The next step was to prepare  it for more patients, more treatment courses, and eventually, a larger market.

That was the starting point for Re5 2.0.

Now the reatment for depression is already implemented and also used in Danish public psychiatric care.

The Collaboration

Neurostimulation treatment at home

Create Medtech partnered with Re5 to help them redesign their concept and user experience.

When Re5 came to us, they already had a good medical device but needed guidance in developing their 2.0 version.

We worked closely with the Re5 team to:

• Renew the design of coil casings
• Redesign of the user interface
• Battery and power management
• Improve user experience

“It has been a pleasure working with Claus and Jakob; they are skilled and complement each other well, and they have driven a lot of progress for us in a short amount of time and within a tight budget.”

What We Did

Re5 2.0 was developed through a close, iterative collaboration between Re5 and Create Medtech. Together, we identified the technical and practical challenges of the existing device, built new prototypes and used each round of testing to inform the next.

Rather than attempting to solve everything on paper, we built to evaluate. Each iteration allowed us to test the device in practice, identify weaknesses early and refine the mechanics, electronics and user experience.

The work focused on making Re5 more reliable outside the clinic, easier for patients to use correctly at home and better suited to efficient production, servicing and future scale. The result was Re5 2.0: a more robust, user-friendly and production-ready version of Re5’s existing CE MDR-certified technology.

The factual framing matches the official project description, which describes the collaboration between Re5, Create Medtech and Aalborg University Hospital as improving reliability, usability, affordability and scalability based on clinical needs identified through more than 350 patient treatments.
