Haystack Phantoms’ mission is to revolutionize medical training models for ultrasound-guided procedures.

The problem with current training tools for ultrasound-guided procedures, or ultrasound phantoms, is that they are expensive. This means that not all clinics or hospitals have the budget to acquire hands-on training tools, and as a result, training often takes place directly on patients.

Additional challenges with existing phantoms on the market include:

They are too bulky and often contain unnecessary components
They lack realism and tissue variation
They are too easy to master and do not provide realistic challenges
There has been very limited development over the past decades, and sustainable solutions are lacking

Behind Haystack Phantoms

With the combined background, as Physicians and Engineers, Haystack is already making great strides. However, developing medical devices is a long and complex journey where experience can make all the difference. The team consists of Jakob Louis Demant Thomsen, an anaesthesiologist with a PhD that acquired research in medical education. And Claus Baumann, an Engineer with a Masters from DTU, has a vast array of experience within medtech innovation and development.
